Millom Folk Museum
Millom
The Folk Museum in Millom is a truly 'local' museum, covering the important development and decline of the iron mining and steel making of the Millom area over the last 150 years.
Displays include a full scale reconstruction of a drift mine from the Hodbarrow Iron Ore Mine, and a miner's cottage kitchen. Historic photographs and mining equipment are displayed.
Also in the Museum is an area devoted to the writer and poet Norman Nicholson (1914-1987), who came from Millom, and who officially opened the Folk Museum in July 1974. Norman Nicholson received the Queen's Medal for poetry in 1977, and in 1981 was awarded the O.B.E.
The Museum is home to Millom's Tourist Information Centre.
