Built in the 1130s The Manor is one of the oldest continuously inhabited houses in Britain and much of the original house remains virtually intact in spite of various changes over nine hundred years. The House and garden are the setting for the Green Knowe books written by Lucy Boston.
There is a collection of Lucy Boston's exquisite patchworks on view. The Garden contains one of the best collections of old roses in private hands. The garden is open daily, but the house is opened to groups or individuals by appointment only. Guided tours of the house are usually conducted by a member of the family. Gift shop selling plants, postcards, gifts, crafts and the books written by Lucy Boston.
